It means that this pen contains a total of 10mg of terzepatide, divided into 4 doses of 2.5mg each. The active ingredient terzepatide is a dual receptor agonist and works by mimicking the functions of GIP and GLP-1 hormones. It binds to receptors in the brain to reduce appetite by slowing gastric emptying and connects with beta cells in the pancreas to stimulate insulin secretion, thereby increasing sensitivity to insulin. They also limit the release of glucose in the intestine to regulate blood sugar levels. This medication is prescribed to individuals who come under the category of obese or overweight based on their body mass index.

• You should not use this pen if you have a history of conditions like multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2) or medullary carcinoma.

• Do not take a dose of Mounjary Kwikpen if you are pregnant or planning to conceive. Discontinue use at least 2 months prior to conception.

• Tell your healthcare provider about all the medications that you are consuming so that they can determine the safety aspect of this pen in combination with other medications.

• This medication reduces the speed of movement of food through your body, so it is recommended to consume small, frequent meals instead of large, infrequent meals. Avoid eating greasy food.

• Follow a strict routine of injecting the pen every week. If you miss a dose, you can take it within three days. If you have passed that point, then skip the missed dose and continue from next week.

This pen, pre-filled with doses of terzepatide, has a few side effects too. Ranging from mild to severe side effects, they are categorized as common and severe side effects.

Common side effects are mild in nature and are mostly gastrointestinal problems that arise because of the slowing down of the digestion process. They usually go away after the first few weeks as the body gets used to it. They include:

• It is recommended to take the shot on the same day of each week, and it can be taken at any time of the day.

• Review the condition of the pen before using. Make sure the liquid container is colorless and the needle is intact.

• Select the site of injection. You can inject this pen into your body parts like the upper arms, the front of your thighs, or your lower abdomen.

• Remove the red sealed cap and push a new needle cap into the pen, and tighten it. Always change the needle with a new one before using.

• After injecting, hold the pen still and press the dose button for 5 seconds and wait till the meter reaches “0”.
